A Lagosian Defrauds His Friend of N9.26 Million

A Lagosian Defrauds His Friend of N9.26 Million                                                       The police in Lagos on Friday arraigned a 51-year old man, who allegedly defrauded his friend of N9.26 million in the guise of using spiritual means to boost his business.
Olanrewaju Osua, who lives at the Alakuko area of Lagos, is standing trial before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court on a five-count charge of fraud, threat to life, and breach of the peace.
According to the police prosecutor, Innocent Odugbo, the accused defrauded Adeleke Otegbeye between March and June at Alakuko.
“The accused, with others still at large, obtained the money from Otegbeye with a promise to employ some spiritual means to boost his business. After collecting the money, the accused threatened to kill the complainant if he asked for the money again,” Mr. Odugbo told the court.
He noted that the offences contravened Sections 56, 166, 285, 312 and 410 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded innocent of the offences.
The magistrate, O.O. Fowowe, granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
The court adjourned the case to August 8 for substantive trial.
The accused could be sentenced to 15 years imprisonment if found guilty.
